Midgets Repeat in Caledonia
The Midget A Shamrocks successfully defended last year’s championship in the Challenge Cup this past weekend in Caledonia.

The Midgets opened with a 3-2 loss Thursday against the Ingersoll Express, but followed up with 2-0 and 2-1 wins against the host Caledonia Thunder and the Six Nations Chiefs to get to Sunday’s playoffs.

Hespeler was down 2-0 with 30 seconds left in their semi-final with Six Nations but scored twice to force overtime and then three and a half minutes into the extra frame to advance to the championship against Ingersoll.

A back and forth Final with the Express was opened up with three Hespeler goals in the last two-and-a-half minutes of the second period, as the Shammies then held on for a 4-2 victory.

Leading scorers were Anthony Byrne (5 points), Kyle Wagner (4 goals), Kyler OBrien (4 assists), Brayden Gartley (3 assists) and Colby Leblanc (2 goals). Logan MacNeill was named MVP with a shutout and many game saving stops.

The Midgets now have three league games on the road before their next home date on Friday, November 3rd against the Owen Sound Junior Attack.
