Rocks Finish Season with Rochester Rumble Championship!!!!
The Hespeler Major Atom A Shamrocks finished their season in fine style capturing a gold medal at the Rochester Rumble Championship Tournament this past weekend in Rochester, NY.

The Rocks lost their first game of the round-robin to the host Rochester Grizzlies 4-1 but rebounded to win their next 3 games and set-up a rematch against the host Rochester club.

This time the Rocks would not be denied skating to a thrilling 4-3 victory and the cheers of their adoring fans.

In between the first game and the championship game, the Rocks also beat three New York State teams. The Rocks easily handled the Valley Eagles 8-2; held off a determined Ithaca Bears club 7-5; and outplayed the Jefferson Jaguars 4-1 to reach the final.
With 7 teams in their pool and only 2 advancing to the playoffs, just making the championship game was an accomplishment in itself.
Nonetheless, the Rocks were not to be denied and their opposition showed exceptional class by saluting the Shamrocks as they skated off the ice.

A great tournament was played by the following players...

Karsen Campbell who shone in goal in the final game.
Owen Clark who posted 2 victories for the Shamrocks
Adam Hoff who was his typical aggressive-self
Daniel Turco whose passion for the game can not be denied
Jacob Kirkwood who so often makes a timely play when the team needs it
Jake Ross who was relentless in his pursuit of the puck
Brock Ahmet who moves the puck so well and is starting to find more of his offensive game
Tate Garside who is one of the top two-way players on the team
Brayden Moore who has the best hair on the team....and is a fine hockey player as well
Justyn Silannpaa-Knox who was a physical presence and scored with his $150 stick
Jake Vautour who had a dominant performance unleashing his lethal wrist shot
Aaron Nagel who back-checked and drove the net throughout the tournament
Nick Billeci who continually thwarted the offensive attack of the opposition
Graem Costigan who was a magician with the puck all season
Ben Wilson whose energy and effort was simply exhilarating

Special thanks to all the coaches and staff who volunteered an abundance of their time over the 2012-2012 season....

I hope I didn't forget anyone. If so, please let me know and I will add them to this final article.

Finally, let me close with these thoughts.

It was a great year!!! There was a lot of success but most importantly our boys made a lot of friends...hopefully friends that they will have for many years to come.
Let us all remember that this is a game. It's a game for our kids to play; to help teach them lessons about life; but most importantly to have fun.
It can be easy to get frustrated with your child when they are not playing well (we're probably all guilty of this); It can be easy to get frustrated with the coaches if they do something you don't agree with (most of us are guilty of this)
It can be easy to get frustrated with the referees when they miss that tripping call (Caledon fans are especially guilty of this!)

But at the end of the day, remember it's just a game!!!! Let's continue to do our part as parents to ensure that all of our boys continue to get a rewarding experience being a Shamrock.

Thanks,
Greg

Special thanks to Greg Nagel, our intrepid reporter, who has done a fabulous job chronicling our season with his dry and sometimes zany wit along with a certain grace and flare that only he can pull off. I wonder what is in store for Mr. Nagel in the future…..Only time will tell.
