All games will play under OMHA rules.


All teams must register at arena of your first game with official roster and travel permit.   If you can send a roster and permits by email in advance of tournament this is also accepted and recommended.  For a player to be eligible as an Affiliated Player, that player must be on an approved roster as an affiliated player for the team.


Games results will be posted at the arena along with on the www.hmha.ca website.

  1. All games will consist of three 10-10-10 minute stop time periods, except for the Bantam & Midget divisions.  These divisions will consist of three 10-10-15 minute stop time periods.  These game times include all quarter-final, semi-final and final games.

  2. There are no timeouts in group play.  One 30-second timeout per team per game is allowed in quarter, semi-final and final games.

  3. When any team is ahead by five or more goals in the third period, the game will proceed under ‘running time’ unless the gap is reduced to three goals, at which point the clock will revert back to stop time.  Under running time, all 2 minute minor penalties are 3 minutes and all 5 minute major penalties will be 7 minutes.

  4. Teams are awarded 2 points for win, 1 point for a tie, 0 points for a loss in group play.

  5. Game Forfeits will result in a 5-0 win.

  6. Playoff Format for each division is outlined prior to the start of the tournament.

  7. In the event of a tie within your group in the standings, or a re-seeding of the teams, or for a wild card berth, the following will be used to determine the final standings:
    • The winner of the group game(s) between the teams advances.  In the event that the group game ends in a tie, or if 3 or more teams tie at the conclusion of group play the team(s) will advance on the basis most total wins.
    • If still tied, the team with the best goal differential in group play, based on the following ratio (GF/(GF+GA) = Team(s) Goal Differential) advances.  Division qualifiers are seeded before wild card(s).
    • If still tied, the team with the most goals scored in group play advances.
    • If still tied, the team with the fewest goals allowed in group play advances.
    • If still tied, the team with the least penalty minutes in group play advances.
    • If still tied, a flip of a coin by a tournament official will be made and the team that wins the flip will advance.
  1. In all quarter-final, semi-final and finals, home team advantage will go to the team with the better record in group play.

  2. For all Quarter, Semi-Finals and Finals - In the event of a tie at the end of regulation time, the overtime format will be as follows:
    • All games are sudden victory. First goal wins.
    • Teams will play one three minute period of 4 on 4 plus goalie, running time.  The last 30 seconds is stop time.
    • If still tied, teams will play a three minute period of 3 on 3 plus goalie, running time.  The last 30 seconds is stop time.
    • If still tied, teams will play a three minute period of 2 on 2 plus goalie, running time.  The last 30 seconds is stop time.
    • If still tied, teams will play a three minute period of 1 on 1 plus goalie, running time.  The last 30 seconds is stop time.
    • If still tied, the above 1 on 1 format will apply until a team scores.
  1. All minor penalties in overtime will be 1 minute running time.  Any major penalties in overtime will result in the ejection of the player from the game and a 5 minute running time penalty.  The clock will stop after offending team touches puck and will restart after next faceoff.

  2. If a team gets a penalty in overtime, an on ice player is removed, which will result in 4 on 3, 3 on 2 or 2 on 1 play.  The only exception is during the 1 on 1 format, where the non-penalized team will add a player on the ice for the duration of the penalty.  Further penalties will result in the following:
    • If the same team gets second penalty, another player is removed, which results in 4 on 2 or 3 on 1 play.
    • If the same team gets a third penalty, it will be delayed.
    • If the other team gets a penalty, one player is removed from its side.
    • All penalties with time remaining are to be carried over into the next overtime period.
    • Teams will not change ends for the overtime periods.
  1. All teams must be prepared to start play 15 minutes in advance of scheduled time.

  2. A maximum of 19 players per team will be allowed on the game sheet.

  3.  A major fighting or gross misconduct penalty will result in player suspension from tournament.

  4.  Any team official (coach, trainer or manager) ejected from a game will also be suspended for the remainder of the tournament.

  5.  Coaches are responsible for team conduct while their team is at the arena.

  6.  Any disputes will be settled by the Tournament Committee and all decisions will be final.
