Hespeler Minor Hockey is excited to welcome our youngest players to the ice this fall.
The Hockey Basics program kicks off with its first practices on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 8:00 a.m. (Rink 1) and Sunday, Sept. 7 at 7:30 a.m. (Rink 2) at Hespeler Arena. Players are encouraged to arrive 20–30 minutes early on opening day to pick up jerseys and socks. This year’s groups will be the Flames and Leafs Blue, though all players will practice together. Families can find the full schedule on the HMHA website and subscribe to the team calendar for automatic updates.
Parents are reminded to ensure players arrive fully equipped with all required protective gear, including a neck guard and mouth guard. Coaches also ask that each helmet be labeled with the player’s name to help with introductions.

The Initiation Program (IP), open to players born in 2019 and 2020, begins later in the month with its first sessions on Saturday, Sept. 27 and Sunday, Sept. 28. The program runs nearly every weekend throughout the season and is separate from the U7 MD team.
If you are looking to get your IP aged players on the ice before then, you can take part in the U7 MD prep skates.
You can find the schedule for the prep skates on our development skate page. This year's development skates, led by Battle Hockey, are designed to help players build skills and boost their confidence.
Whether your child is planning on attending U7 MD evaluations or not, they will benefit from these sessions! Register here to take part in the prep skates.
