WHY PLAY HESPELER LOCAL LEAGUE INSTEAD OF HOUSE LEAGUE SOMEWHERE ELSE?
The local league format provides an option for children from all over Cambridge and any other city who want to experience the thrill of competing against other communities but who have some barriers keeping them from travel hockey.
Cost: Get the Travel hockey experience at House League prices.
The cost for Local League is much lower than for travel teams. Travel players pay additional travel fees plus several hundred more dollars each to cover team fees for tournaments, extra ice, jackets, track suits, etc. Local League players only pay the House League registration fee.
Opportunity: Great competition for all and no residency restrictions.
Local League gives players who can't play travel a chance to experience competing against other cities while representing their community in a league where fair play and fun are paramount.
Skill: Everyone plays and everyone improves and with no body checking.
Players who are just starting in hockey and are developing their skills will still get the opportunity to play competitively with out the need for try outs. The increased level of competition is more fun and creates more opportunities for skills development. Local League is NON-CONTACT at all age groups.
Time: Balance your love for hockey with your love for everything else.
Travel teams are generally on the ice 4 or 5 times a week. This is a huge time commitment. For those who love to compete in hockey but can't dedicate the time required to play travel hockey have local league as an option to play in a competitive hockey league and have time for the other things they love to do.
The C. O. S. T. of Hespeler Local League makes sense!
WHAT IS THE GRAND RIVER LOCAL LEAGUE?
The Grand River Local League consists of OMHA centres who have small registration numbers and who combine their age groups (minor and major), which is consistent with HMHA’s current house league format.
The centres currently in the Grand River LL are as follows; Beverly, Ayr, St. George, Plattsville, Woolwich, New Hamburg, Tavistock, Embro and Twin Centres (Wellesley/St. Clements).
The playing season will include approximately 20 to 24 games, depending on the number of teams in each division. There will be a mix of home and away games with home games played at Hespeler arena.
Once the regular season concludes, all the local league teams will be seeded and broken out into groups (A,B,C,D) and the playoffs will begin. Top teams in each division will play for the Championships.

New To Hespeler Minor Hockey? If you have just moved to Hespeler and you have previously played hockey with another association you will need to contact the hockey office for details on the transfer process. Please email [email protected] for further information.
If this is your first time registering for hockey, a copy of the player's Birth Certificate and Proof of Residency must be uploaded to your child's Hockey Canada profile.
Parent Respect in Sport Course Mandate
As per the OMHA mandate in 2014, all parents must complete the Parent Respect in Sport online course in order for their child to be on an approved roster. This is a one-time only requirement and only one parent needs to complete the course. You will need to attach the completed course info to your child(ren)'s profile in the "Child Management" section of the program. Please do not forget to do this and to enter the correct Association as "Hespeler Minor Hockey Association". To access the online program, Click Here.
HOW OFTEN AND HOW FAR WILL TEAMS HAVE TO TRAVEL?
On average, teams will travel less than once every other week for an away game and that average travel times will be less then 40 mins. Usually travel will only be necessary, on average about twice a month. Car pooling for the anticipated 10 or 12 away games a year can add a fun dimension to the hockey experience and help control transportation costs.
WILL THERE BE ADDITIONAL COSTS?
Besides the registration fees HMHA does not charge any additional fees however most host cities will charge a nominal gate fee for spectators. Gate fees are $2 per adult and $1 for children and seniors. HMHA does not collect gate fees.
CAN LOCAL LEAGUE TEAMS PLAY IN TOURNAMENTS?
Absolutely! If there are enough players interested in playing in a tournament the teams can register for tournaments. The cost for tournaments is paid by the players who will be going to the tournament.
IS THERE BODY CHECKING IN THE LEAGUE?
NO. Beginning in the 2015-2016 season Body checking is NOT permitted at any age category.
