Overview:  

The Vice President is elected by members at the Annual General Meeting. He/She shall assist the President in the general supervision of the Association. He/She shall perform the duties of the President in his/her absence and organize and chair the discipline committee.

Skills/Attributes recommended:   The candidate should have exceptional communication and mediation skills, strong organizational and leadership skills, a solid knowledge of hockey, a thorough understanding of the HMHA constitution, rules of operation, harassment and abuse policy and OMHA rules and regulations and be reliable, flexible and respectful. 

Certifications:  

Have or be willing to obtain Speak-out/prevention services certification.

Have or be willing to obtain a Police record check.

Sign and abide by any code of conduct adopted by the executive.

Time Commitment:

Time commitment is heaviest at the beginning and end of the season. At those times 5-10 hours a week or more would be required. Throughout the season it can average to 3-4 hours not counting attending games. More hours required when discipline issues arise.

Specific duties:

  • Promote the image of the association and of the sport of hockey within the community.
  • Ensure that the interests of the general membership are given due and adequate consideration in all activities carried out by the board.
  • Oversee all aspects of the police record check process including maintaining an up to date spreadsheet
  • Oversee all aspects of the discipline committee including investigating of complaints, coordinating meetings and hearings, recruiting members if a committee is required, and communicating the decisions made to the Board of Directors and all parties affected.
  • Step into the role of President during any absence and carry on the duties as assigned
  • Attend the Annual General Meeting of the OMHA each June and the Tri County AGM or any regular meeting of Tri County if required.
  • Attend Olympics games and be available to hand out awards in the on ice ceremony following medal games
  • Check mail slot in the office on a regular basis and respond where required
