HMHA U9 & Under Program Information
2022-2023 Season -Programming Overview
Hockey Basics - 2018 Birth Year

All ice times are designed to develop the basic hockey skills of 4 year old players in a fun and engaging way.

There are no formal games, however, small area games and scrimmages are a part of the program.
U7 Initiation Program (IP) - 2017 & 2016 Birth Years

Practices are station based focusing on technical skill development.

Games are 4 on 4, Cross Ice, with smaller nets.

Development Season - First 8 weeks - focus is on skill development with all ice times setup as station based practices.

Regular Season - remainder of the season and generally has one practice and one cross-ice game per week.

A convenor runs consistent station based practices for all teams.
U8 - 2015 Birth Year
U9 - 2014 Birth Year
Note: The U8 MD and U9 MD teams prepare players for Rep hockey in U10. These teams require players to pay a Travel Fee and Team Fees on top of the registration fee. Details on Travel fees can be found here. Team fees are set by the coach and presented during the team meeting at the start of the season. Team fees cover team expenses such as tournaments, additional ice and other expenses the team incurs over the season.

You must have the NCCP Coach 1 – Intro to Coach qualification to be a Head Coach or Assistant Coach on any of the Novice & Under teams. Please check the HMHA website for coaching clinic dates.
Parent Respect in Sport Course Mandate
As per the OMHA mandate in 2014, all parents must complete the Parent Respect in Sport online course in order for their child to be on an approved roster. This is a one-time only requirement and only one parent needs to complete the course.
You will need to attach the completed course info to your child(ren)'s profile in the "Child Management" section of the program. Please do not forget to do this and to enter the correct Association as "Hespeler Minor Hockey Association".
