Submitted By HMHA Board on Tue 04 30, 13
Derek Darnell was presented with this years Life Time Member Award. This award is presented to a member of HMHA who is 18 years of age or older had has dedicated 10 consecutive years of volunteer service.
Derek's coaching career spans every age group and division in the HMHA. Both of his sons (Kyle and Colin) have played their entire minor hockey careers in Hespeler. Not only was Derek available to coach both of them, he also found time to help out other teams as well. A recent career highlight saw Derek as part of the 2011/2012 Midget A/E OMHA Finalists team.
Derek has also served on the Executive Board for numerous years and in many different capacities. His last post was that of Director of Hockey Operations. Derek had to take a break from the Executive Board in 2012 to support his wife Debbie as she battled cancer. At the time he was part of the bench staff of the Novice A team. Although he was not always able to attend the games or practices, a part of his thoughts were with his team.
Derek exemplifies the selfless qualities that every organization strives to find in their volunteers.
Thank you for your many years of service, and we hope that there will be many more to come.
