Hespeler Minor Hockey Association Canadian Hockey Initiation Program (IP)

Junior IP - Ages 4 to 5 by Dec 31st

Hockey Canada developed the Initiation Program to make children's first contact with hockey a safe and positive experience. It's a structured, learn to play hockey program designed to introduce beginners to the games basic skills. It enables participants to become contributing members of team effort, develop self confidence and experience a sense of personal achievement.

These goals are achieved in an atmosphere of fun and fair play. HMHA will be following Hockey Canada's recommendation that player development be built on practicing technical skills 85% and individual tactics 15%. The IP program will focus on the following objectives:

Fundamental Movements
•Skating
•Jumping
•Twisting
•Turning

Manipulation Skills
•Shooting
•Puck Control

Motor Skills
•Agility
•Balance
•Coordination

HMHA's goal is to make the first impression of hockey a positive one for the player and parents.  The IP program runs Saturday and Sunday mornings at the Hespeler Arena.  Exact times will be set in the fall.  HMHA also provides complimentary use of goalie equipment for willing participants who would like to play the position.
