Overview

 

  • The Novice & Under Programming is designed to scale the game of hockey down for younger players.
  • As kids get older, the size of the playing surface scales with them. From Cross Ice, to Half Ice to Full Ice

Program Overview

 

Hockey Basics - 2015 Birth Year

  • All ice times are designed to develop the basic hockey skills of 4 year old players in a fun and engaging way.  
  • There are no formal games, however, small area games and scrimmages are a part of the program.  

Initiation Program (IP) - 2013 & 2014 Birth Years

  • The IP program is designed for 5 & 6 year old players
  • Practices are station based focusing on technical skill development.
  • The skills covered are summarized here
  • Games are 4 on 4, Cross Ice, with smaller nets.
  • The Development Season is 8 weeks long, runs through September and October, and focuses on skill development with all ice times setup as practices.
  • The Regular Season runs from November to March and generally has 1 practice and 1 game per week.

Minor Novice - 2012 Birth Year

  • Minor Novice follows the same development and regular season format as IP but games are played on half ice.
  • The skills covered are summarized here.
  •  Beginning in Minor Novice, HMHA offers an advanced development team called Minor Novice Select. This team is for players pursuing a more competitive stream of hockey.
  • In order to be eligible for Minor Novice Select you must be registered in our Minor Novice program. The Minor Novice Select team is formed in September.
  • All teams may participate in up to 3 jamborees starting after December 1st

Novice - 2011 Birth Year

  • In Novice the season is broken into three sections:
    • Development Season again runs through September and October.
    •  Regular Season runs from November to January 14th.
    •  Transition Season runs from Jan 15th to March
  • Games played before January 15th are cross ice games with games after January 15th played on full ice.

  •  HMHA offers:
    •  Novice A team for players pursuing a more competitive stream of hockey
    •  Local League teams for all players following our standard programming
  •  The Novice A Team is formed in September.

You must have the NCCP Coach 1 – Intro to Coach qualification to be a Head Coach or Assistant Coach on any of the Novice & Under teams. Please check the HMHA website for coaching clinic dates.


Parent Respect in Sport Course Mandate

 

As per the OMHA mandate in 2014, all parents must complete the Parent Respect in Sport online course in order for their child to be on an approved roster.  This is a one-time only requirement and only one parent needs to complete the course.  

 

You will need to attach the completed course info to your child(ren)'s profile in the "Child Management" section of the program.  Please do not forget to do this and to enter the correct Association as "Hespeler Minor Hockey Association".
