Shamrocks Undefeated in the Hespeler Olympics!
With the wrapping barely off their presents and family dinners still fresh in their heads the Hespeler Shamrocks Novice A took to the ice in the 51st Annual Hespeler Olympics.
The team skated hard in all aspects of the game throughout the round robin securing a first place seed which set up for a semifinal rematch versus the Whitby Wildcats. Down to Galt Arena the team went for the afternoon semis and The Novice Shamrocks stepped on the pedal early, jumping out to a 5-0 lead. Whitby would prove to never give up and gave the boys all they could handle making it a 5-3 game and securing a spot in the final.
What better spot then our home arena to show our Green and White pride! The fans were lively and brought the team a ton of energy! The Barrie Colts came out and gave the Shamrocks everything they could handle stepping out to a 3-1 lead heading into the 3rd period. The boys never gave up and knew the final 10 minutes would determine the outcome. 2 quick goals tied the game up with 3 minutes remaining. A little adversity ensued with a goal being called back but that didn't stop the team from going right back out and defending their zone and protecting the puck. Some harrowing last few minutes saw the game head into a 3 minute overtime where they would play 4 on 4. The time ticked down and the boys pushed hard every time Barrie pushed forward. Using their team speed in the last minute of the first OT the Shamrocks came out on a 2 on 0 and a beautiful passing play saw the puck go to the back of the net.
Gloves and sticks littered the ice as the team met at center ice to raise the trophy and call themselves Champions of the Hespeler Olympics!
