Winless in Woolwich
In our second playoff game we headed to Woolwich to face the Wildcats with hopes of continuing our win streak. What we found was a composed and disciplined team who was there to win.
The first period found our Shamrocks keeping up with the Wildcats making them work for every inch of the ice. On the power play Woolwich was able to take advantage and score the first goal of the game. While getting some solid shots on net during our power play advantage our shots just couldn't reach the back of the net.
The second period started off with another Woolwich goal bring them to a 2-0 lead. With an awesome display of team work and never giving up on the play, Andrew C. was able to clean out the cobwebs at the back of the Woolwich net. With the score 2-1 half way through the second, a switch seemed to flip (and not for the positive) within our Shamrocks and Woolwich was able to get another one past our defense ending the second 3-1 Wildcats.
Not sure if it was the late game start or the stars out of alignment but our Shamrocks seemed to lose all the air in their sails. The third period was dominated by the Wildcats who added two more to the scoreboard ending the game with a 5-1 loss.
It was as if some our Shamrocks mentally checked out of the game. All fore checking/back checking stopped. Our beautiful passing game wasn't to be found past the first period and it seemed when we did make passes it connected with a Wildcat stick. Woolwich was able to take advantage of our pauses and lack of pressure on the puck. The Wildcats are a talented team. But so are we. We just have to give our best for three periods of hockey and when down on the scoreboard not give up.
Woolwich has the confidence BUT we need to remember that it was US who stole away their undefeated season. It was the Shamrocks who played their game and deserved the wins against the Wildcats. It is THAT team we need to show up Sunday night. Let's take the air out of the Wildcats sails Sunday night and show them the Shamrocks we can be.
GO ROCKS GO!!!!
