U8 LL, LL (Hespeler Minor Hockey Association)

This Sunday our Shamrocks headed to Ayr to battle the Flames. The games were very difficult battles. While we did not win we did work well as a team and skated away proud that we played as a team not individual efforts. Players of the game were Tommy and Riggins. These two never gave up, listened to their coaches and made great defensive efforts. Congrats Riggins and Tommy. Your team is proud of you.

On Sunday February 23rd our Shamrocks headed to Beverly to take on the Bandits. Beverly is widely regarded as the toughest team to beat in the Grand River Local League but that didn't matter to our Shamrocks. In the first match our goalie was able to net a team first this year, when he recorded our first shutout with a 7-0 victory in the first matchup. Meanwhile on the other side of the ice one player really stood out for not being afraid to challenge the Bandits for possession and stood tall and skated with his head up and was able to create many opportunities for our team. On Saturday our Shamrocks had a rematch against the Woolwich Wildcats. This was the third time in 2 weeks we have played the Wildcats and it was another great game. Our success this year has been in the coaching, as every single player has elevated their game. Today that was abundantly clear when even our more cautions players were battling on the boards and in the mix of it all. Congrats to Wylder an Kayleigh for their strong efforts to become players of the game. Your team is so proud of you both! 

Family Day weekend provided a wonderful Canadian winter weekend for many, but none more than our little u8 LL Shamrocks who got to experience their first tournament outside of Hespeler— in the middle of a blizzard! The team even got to play a bonus fifth game when another team was unable to make it in. The team played incredible two way hockey. There was lots of perfectly executed breakouts, teamwork and heads-up hockey. With great coaching and even better listening from the players, our team had a great tournament on and off the ice. Our final game of the tournament saw lots of great cooperation and teamwork. Our shamrocks have really learned what it means to play for your teammates instead of yourself and multiple times we had players sliding to block shots to help our goalies. Team 1 awarded Logan the MVP of the game for his incredible two-way play and support of all of his teammates. Team 2 handed out the Celly award to Nikolas after he scored an awesome goal. Congrats Nikolas and Logan ! Your team is so proud of you.
