Inspiring effort earns tie with Oakville Rangers
What a difference a week makes! After suffering a 5-2 loss a week ago in Oakville where the Shamrock’s were outplayed, the team had lots to prove in the return home match on Sunday with the visiting Rangers.
From the very beginning, the inspired play of the “Rocks” sent the message that Hespeler was looking to redeem their earlier loss. In the dressing room before the game coach Terry told the kids to go earn the respect of the Oakville team and boy did they ever!
The first period ended scoreless, however both teams had their chances. Oakville opened the scoring shortly into the second but the relentless “Rocks” responded shortly thereafter. Solid defence, an inspired fore check, and good positional play allowed the Shamrock’s to equal Oakville’s slick passing and sleek skating to this point. The question was....could the effort be maintained?
Hespeler answered halfway through the third with the go ahead goal! Unfortunately, a late game penalty gave Oakville a chance at redemption, and they responded! By games’ end, the scored remained 2-2 but the Shamrock’s come away with lots to look forward to as continued improvement and effort bode well for Hespeler fortunes!
