Major Atom, 2012-2013 (Hespeler Minor Hockey Association)

The Hespeler Major Atom A Shamrocks finished their season in fine style capturing a gold medal at the Rochester Rumble Championship Tournament this past weekend in Rochester, NY. The Rocks lost their first game of the round-robin to the host Rochester Grizzlies 4-1 but rebounded to win their next 3 games and set-up a rematch against the host Rochester club. This time the Rocks would not be denied skating to a thrilling 4-3 victory and the cheers of their adoring fans.

The Hespeler Minor Atom A Shamrocks posted two straight wins over Caledon and Brampton over the weekend. A Friday night affair in Caledon saw the Rocks post a hard-fought 3-1 victory in a chippy game and follow it up with another dominant victory over the Brampton 45s on Saturday afternoon. The final score on Saturday was 6-0.

The Hespeler Major Atom A Shamrocks posted back-to-back losses in two games that could have easily gone their way. The Rocks lost 3-2 to the Burlington Eagles on Saturday in Hespeler and also fell 2-1 to Guelph on Tuesday night. Both games went to overtime.

The Hespeler Major Atom A Shamrocks fell just short of their goal of advancing to the Quarter-Finals of the OMHA Playoffs finishing second in their playdown pool. Their nemesis as it turned out, proved to be the Owen Sound Jr Attack. Despite out-chancing Owen Sound in both games the Rocks had trouble finding the back of the net and ultimately fell 3-1 in the second-to-last playdown game. Hespeler showed great character however in their final playdown game easily handling the Dundas Blues 4-1.

The Hespeler Major Atom A Shamrocks made it 4 wins in a row with two wins over Dundas and Georgetown. The Rocks skated past the Blues on Tuesday in Dundas posting a 4-0 victory and continued their successful road trip with a 4-2 victory over the Georgetown Raiders on Thursday. The wins keep the Shamrock hopes of moving to the OMHA quarter-finals alive but they will likely need two more victories over Owen Sound and Dundas this week to make it happen.
